Atelier FAAR – which stands for For Artists and Residents – is a platform for artistic exchange and community engagement, deeply rooted in the vibrant neighborhood of Borgerhout, Antwerp. Our activities are based in two buildings on Kistemaeckersstraat, where we offer affordable, sustainably built studios made from reusable and second-hand materials. With this initiative, we support not only emerging and established artists but also create space for amateur makers. In this way, we foster a community that thrives on collaboration and creativity, embodying the ethos of artists for artists.

At the core of FAAR’s mission is our commitment to facilitating meaningful dialogue and collaboration between guest artists, local residents, and the wider community. We believe that artistic practice serves as a powerful tool for connection, reflection, and social engagement. By bridging the gap between art and the neighborhood, we aim to create a rich tapestry of shared experiences and ideas.

In addition to our studios, we are currently building a new exhibition space at Kistemaeckersstraat 64–62, which will specifically serve for exhibitions and events. We also organize open studios in the individual workspaces and workshops in the shared spaces. These initiatives are explicitly aimed at both professional and amateur makers, inviting everyone to share ideas, experiences, and creative processes. The exhibition space will function as a testing ground for new work and experimentation, prioritizing artistic research and exchange over commercial representation. This gives makers the freedom to explore and innovate without the pressures of the market.

We welcome national and international artists, cultural workers, amateur makers, and curious local residents, building a rich ecosystem of creativity and collaboration.
